{create} Gold Accent Pieces

I have been looking for some inexpensive accent pieces that can bring a little character to the house but don't cost an arm and a leg. Luckily, I came across this post for Brass Figurines  and knew it was exactly what I needed. So, when I was in Michael's, I went to the $1 toy section and found the elephant and giraffe kids toys below.

Then I bought a spray paint in metallic gold and spray painted away! Super easy and fast!

I put my elephant on my dining room shelves above my new cookbooks that I got for $5 at Goodwill! Another great purchase!

Right now my giraffe is on the shelves as well but the top shelves still need some more planning. Suggestions? I am thinking of putting pictures on the top shelf but not quite sure how to organize them.

I can't believe these figurines sell at large retail stores for almost $100. This is seriously one of my favorite DIY's yet! I went to Africa for Engineering without Borders in college, so these guys are cute & remind me of a great trip!

Oh and coming soon....the gold vases you see above were also a goodwill transformation! What have you spray painted lately? Elephants? Something else exciting?

  1. Yay for cheap plastic animals!!! Be careful, it's a sickness and an obsession....you may not be able to stop!! :) Love the vases, too...see, we've both been carried away by gold spray paint!
